How To Start Making Videos For Your Business
Written By Max Hoffenheins
Video production is one aspect of marketing that should never be ignored. At least, that’s what the statistics have proven to us, especially in 2020.
This research published on HubSpot in 2018 shows that there’s been an increased demand for more video content by 54% of consumers. As if that’s not enough to make you believe, this report also proves that video is the most preferred type of content and that 93% of brands have gotten new customers because of their video content!
If you’re a business owner, you may want to take a quick pause and consider creating any kind of video content right now if you haven’t done so. This can either be vlogs, tutorial videos, product reviews, you name it.
Today’s episode on #TheJourney podcast is aimed specifically at small businesses that want to start creating video content for social media.
Before we get into the tips, it goes without saying but an important thing to bear in mind is to ensure that you’ve got a great product or service. The reality is that it becomes easier to highlight several important aspects of your product on camera when it’s fantastic.
With that in mind, here are a few tips on how to start making high-quality videos and strategies on how to share and increase engagement for the videos:
Key Elements For Quality Video Production
If you’re looking to make superb video contents, emphasis needs to be placed on three main phases:
What aspects of your product or service do you want to highlight? E.g. a real estate guy who wants to target sellers. They need to understand pre-production, filming and video editing.
1. Pre-production
This phase has to do with the video planning before it’s shot. Provide answers to key questions that highlight your product or service.
For example, if you’re a real estate agency who’s looking to target sellers you want to answer questions like: ‘Who are you?’, ‘Why did you get into this business?’ and ‘What makes a good seller’s agent?’
Those are only a few out of many such questions that will make potential customers see that you’re an expert in your field. When planning, you want to make sure that you cut right to chase and not beat around the bush on things that aren’t important. Wherever necessary, add depth and meaning to your video content as long as it brings value to your audience.
2. Filming
Depending on what you have, you could either use a phone or a camera. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that quality is important.
Speaking of quality, a lot of content producers often hype video quality and tend to omit audio quality. We think that if you’re able to get one thing right in this phase, at least let it be the audio quality.
3. Editing
Video editing sucks to many people because, as you’d imagine, it requires a lot of work and tech skills… or does it?
The truth is, if you’re good on camera (the filming phase) there won’t need to be much editing before posting them to your social media. A good place to start for video editing is iMovie. The more advanced version of this is Final Cut Pro.
Although the above are exclusive to only Apple product users, there are other free video editing software out there for Windows or other device users such as OpenShot, DaVinci Resolve 16, amongst others.
How Do You Distribute Your Videos On Social Media?
Once you’re done producing and editing your video content, the next big question to answer is how you can share this to garner maximum active engagement on social media. Here’s Shannon’s advice on how to do this:
- Post the video on your personal social media.
- Also post it on your business pages e.g. Facebook and Instagram business pages and YouTube. One thing to remember when posting on YouTube is to think of it as a search engine and make sure that your video titles are properly optimized for this.
- Invest some money to boost the video content on your FB. Make sure to promote this to people that liked your business page as well as their friends. Boosting your video to an audience within your local residence is also great for gaining more traction.
Whether you’re just starting out or you’re already an established business owner, if you’re looking to boost revenue quickly on social media, it all comes down to having a great product or service.
