I’ve never done any advertisement on Snapchat so I figured it would be a great opportnuity to go to Shopify’s growth lab and learn about it.
I highly recommend going to their paid growth labs if you’re in the LA area. They are really informative and what they do is bring top marketing agencies in to share what they are doing for their clients so they we can implement it. Really good material.
In regards to this Snapchat class I want to share with you the takeaways in bullet points so you can take out anything that sticks out to you in particular.
- Snapchat ad costs are an estimated 15 times lower than Facebook’s
- I heard the conversion rates aren’t as good as FB but still a great platform to generate traffic
- The backend looks simple and easy to use. The frame work you can see is very similar to Facebook ad manager but not as complex. Maybe because they don’t have all the functionality as FB but it looks like it has all the essentials.
- A surprising amount of their demographic are 27-35
- The audiences:
- As a real estate marketer I was shocked that they shave the options for home owners and renters. Along with income. I will be testing to see how accurate this is but on the income side it looks like they get it from Experian.
- Lookalike audiences are here as well as your database which is nice.
- The cold audience has something different that I’ve never seen before which was the option to target someone based on the type of venue someone was at within the last 15 days. Such as Barbershop, Idian restaurant, airport, beach etc. This is crazy. Can’t wait to use this.
- The ad creative. It’s basically snapchat size. Around 10 seconds. The basic options allows you to customize your video as well.
- The link options are there to drive traffic to a site.
- The cost from the screenshots I’ve seen are really cheap which I’m excited about and the fact that not a lot of local marketers are using this is exciting too.
- They also have a pixel you can install on your website, same as if you were on Facebook.
- At this point I’m finally starting to see skills I’ve learn from past platforms benefit me when going into new platforms because the interfaces with Facebook and Snapchat look very similar. I know I can get my way through really quick.
- My game plan:
- I want to test real estate ads on Snapchat. The fact that I’m even saying that seem weird but since not a lot of agents are doing it there is the opportunity and seeing it I can target home owners (which I can no longer do on Facebook) snapchat might have my money if this works.
- Installing the snap pixel
- Spanish marketing: There is an option to target Spanish speakers so I will be testing that out on my Spanish ads.
- Since the cost is low I will test parts of my ad budgets to this to see how it works but just like Facebook I will use a cold target to grow the retargeting and see how this works.
- More to come!
One of the biggest takeaways from this Snapchat ads event was the audience targeting capabilites snapchat has. Specifically, the ability to be able to target whoever has checked-in to a certain place.
