There can be many pitfalls when it comes to marketing online. You can be marketing to different demographics, spending time on the wrong platform or not having an optimized website. The list goes on and on.
Small business owners are still skeptical in investing too much time or money in online marketing while corporations are dominating these mediums that are suppose to make the playing field even. This shows you the 2 biggest mistakes you can make when it comes to online marketing:
1) Not Starting At All!
How many of you still haven’t started any Facebook marketing campaigns? How many of you were never even on Youtube? How many of you still don’t have an up-to-date website? All these things have blown up tremendously and the 1% have an un-equal share of the market online because you haven’t even started putting your time into anything online. Yes you might still have some business but how much better do you think your business could have been if you were to have started adding videos of your business on YouTube years ago?
Exactly!
Now the more time that passes, the harder it will be to get an ROI. Don’t get me wrong, you can still grow a brand and base of potential clients online. However, in order to do this you also need to avoid the next mistake…
2) Not Being Consistent and Adjusting
Now the number of people that haven’t started marketing online is minute compared to the people that started and stopped within just a month!
Let me paint a picture for you.
You go to a class. The instructor shows you the amount of potential clients that are on Facebook, how to create ads and fancy statistics. You then go back to your desk and create a business page. Next day you start posting your services and put $5 towards it. The post then gets 3 likes and no leads. You then stop.
Sound familiar? Did you do that with your business the moment things stopped working for you? Or did you keep going and adjusting?
Online marketing works just like the real world does. It takes time and dedication for it to work, no matter how instant the internet gets.
So remember:
- Pick a strategy that works for you
- Have a plan
- Start
- Stay consistent and adjust
I met a business owner that owns 60% market share in her area (within her industry). I asked what her secret was and she told me: “Anything I try, I try for a year! Most people try marketing strategies for a month or two and they give off the false illusion to your prospects that you went out of business because they stop seeing your marketing. I just got a client from a marketing piece I’ve been doing for 8 months.”
Think about it…
